To participate in the Houston Wild's tryouts, players should REGISTER ONLINE by clicking the link at the top of this page.

  • The cost of tryouts is ALL INCLUSIVE.  If a player is not selected for the AA team in their age division, that player may tryout for the A1 (and A2, if applicable) team at that age division WITHOUT ADDITIONAL CHARGE OR REGISTRATION.  For example, Player A is registered for and attends try-outs for the 10UAA team, but is not offered a roster position on the 10UAA team.  Player A may attend the try-outs for the 10U A1 & A2 teams without any further registration or payment, he/she need only present him/herself at the scheduled 10U A1 & A2 tryouts.
  • Players attending 10U, 12U and 14U tryouts on June 15th will be evaluated for both our A1 & A2 teams at their respective age group.  Rosters will be posted at the same time for the A1 and A2 teams at each of those age divisions.
  • Online registrations for 14UAA Tier II, 12UAA and 10UAA will not be accepted past 11:59 pm on Friday, June 7th.
  • Online registration for all other teams will close at 11:59 pm on Friday, June 14th.
  • The online registration fee for all teams except 18UAA is $55, payable at the time of registration.  The online registration fee for 18UAA is $35.
  • Once online registration closes, the cost for walkups is an additional $10 over the above noted prices.
  • No pro-rated fees.  No refunds.
  • Your player's 2019-20 USA Hockey Registration Confirmation number will be required to complete the online or a walk-up registration.
  • If your player is unable to attend tryouts but he/she would like to be considered for a Houston Wild team, it is your responsibility to (1) register your player and pay the tryout registration fee using the 2019-20 Hockey Season Tryout Registration link above and (2) contact the appropriate Head Coach directly to make him aware of your player's intentions/absence.  Absences will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

2019-20 General Tryout Information

The following procedures and guidelines will be used for the 2019-20 Houston Wild tryouts:

  • All players registered to try out fo a particular team should be present for the first scheduled tryout session for that team.
  • Your player should arrive at the rink for check-in forty-five (45) minutes prior to the assigned tryout time.
  • Upon check-in, your player will be assigned a numbered/colored tryout pinnie.  All players must RETURN HIS/HER PINNIE AFTER EACH TRYOUT SESSION, regardless of date, rink or level.
  • No spectators will be allowed on, behind or near the benches.  Violators will be asked to leave.
  • Please note that Head Coaches and/or Assistant Coaches may or may not choose to be on the ice during the tryout sessions.
  • In addition, there will be one or more independent evaluators at each age division to support the process and to aid in the unforeseen or unavoidable event a coach may not be available for a tryout session.
  • Coaches may, at their discretion, make 'cuts' after any tryout session for their team.  In such cases, the coach will advise the players before they leave the ice at the end of the session.  Advancement Lists will be posted as soon as possible following that session, both at the rink and on our website.

2019-20 Tryout Schedule

The Texas Amateur Hockey Association (TAHA) and DSTHL have established a cooperative policy for the 2019-20 season tryouts to ensure tryout schedules that allow players both the opportunity and option to try out for a desired level or team and a distinct separation between that level and the subsequent level.  For example, Tier I/AAA tryouts take place before Tier II/AA tryouts that take place before A1/A2/House Rec tryouts.

Please see the 2019-20 Houston Wild Tryout Schedule below (in chronological order) and/or the printable schedule to the right (by age division) for tryout times.

  • Schedule is subject to change in the event of unforeseen circumstances.
  • Rink to be open 1 hour prior to the first session of the day.

  • Option 2: Divide your Player’s Player Registration Fee (total player fees less Commitment Fee) into five (5) equal payments to be automatically charged (using the same method as used for the Commitment Fee) on August 1, September 1, October 1, November 1, and December 1.

If you are unable to attend to online payment of your player’s Commitment Fee and/or Player Registration Fee, you are responsible, within the designated commitment timeline, to contact Houston Wild Treasurer, Laura Hornto make arrangements for offline payment.

In recognition of the varying schedules of our goaltenders, each 2019-20 Houston Wild goaltender will also be offered two (2) $50 rebates upon the presentation of receipts for additional goalie coaching by the coach of their choice and according to their own schedule.  We hope this will allow our goalies and their families the opportunity to access additional training according to their own preferences and schedules.  Rebates are not redeemable for cash and only one rebate per lesson per goalie is available.

Financial Assistance is available for those in need, however per DSTHL rules, we may not consider requests for financial assistance until after the player requesting assistance has committed to a Houston Wild team.  For more information, please see the Financial Assistance application on our ‘About Us’ page and/or contact Houston Wild President, Karen Fraser.

TAHA Community-Based Rule

As a TAHA member association, the Houston Wild is bound by TAHA's 'community-based' policy for all our teams.  If Houston is not the closest travel hockey community to the primary residence of a player's immediate family, the onus is on the player's family to seek permission from the TAHA Travel Section President to attend our tryouts.  We strongly suggest that you initiate such requests at least two (2) weeks prior to the date of the Houston Wild tryout your player wishes to attend.

Any players residing within TAHA's jurisdiction but outside our boundaries (or in Louisiana) must present evidence of such permission prior to attending our tryouts.

For more information on TAHA's 'community-based' policy, please see the TAHA Guidebook/Rulebook, particularly page 15.

2011 Birth Year Players

8U (2011 Birth Year) players trying out for the Houston Wild are encouraged to be familiar with the TAHA Mite ADM Policy, located on page 24 of the TAHA Guidebook/Rulebook.
