2023 Spring Development Clinic

In cooperation and communication with the Houston rinks, the Houston Wild is pleased to announce that the 2023 Spring Development Clinic is back.
 
Clinics will start on Tues/April 4th and run through Thur/May 25, respectively.  Scroll down for printable clinic schedules.

TIERED REGISTRATION

“Tiered Registration” for any clinic option shall open as follows:

  • Tues/Mar 7th (7:00am CST) - registration opens to all 2022-23 Wild & Apollos players ONLY.

  • Thur/Mar 9th (7:00am CST) - registration opens to all other age-eligible players.

NOTE: ANY PLAYER WHO REGISTERS OUTSIDE OF THE PERMITTED REGISTRATION DATE WILL BE PUT ‘ON HOLD’ FOR 48 HOURS AND HIS/HER REGISTRATION WILL BE REACTIVATED AFTER 48 HOURS, SHOULD SPACE PERMIT.

REGISTRATION NOTES

Your player's USAH 2022-23 confirmation number WILL be required during the registration process, so please have that available.
 
NO WAITLIST OR DROP-IN/WALK-ON OPTIONS will be made available for either clinic option.
 
Players must register in accordance with their USAH 2023-24 age division as follows.  No play-ups or play-downs will be permitted.
  • 10U – 2013 & 2014 Birth Years
  • 12U – 2011 & 2012 Birth Years
  • 14U – 2009 & 2010 Birth Years
  • 16U – 2008 & 2007 Birth Years
  • 18U – 2005 & 2006 Birth Years (18U registration will also be open to all Wild/Apollos 2023-22 season travel players born in 2004)
In accordance with USAH/TAHA Mite ADM Policy, we will be unable to accept any 8U players (2015 birth year or younger).
 
SPACE WILL BE LIMITED, so early registration is encouraged.  

CLINIC OPTIONS

The Wild looks forward to offering the following clinic options this spring towards developing each player's hockey potential. 
 
Clinics options will start as early as Tues/April 4 and be completed by Thur/May 25.
*NOTE: Clinics WILL NOT be held on Easter Sunday - April 9.
 
  • Traditional 10U / 12U / 14U / 16U:      2x/week * (min. 15.75hrs on-ice)
  • Traditional 18U:                                   1x/week * (min. 8hrs on-ice)
* All goalies registered with any clinic will also receive an additional four (4) on-ice hrs of age-appropriate goalie-specific instruction (Tuesdays).
 
As always, registration for the Houston Wild’s Spring Development Clinics is open to all Houston-area hockey players; however, it is STRONGLY recommended that participants have a minimum of two (2) seasons’ playing experience at either the house/rec or travel level.  (NOTE:  The Wild Coaching Committee reserves the right to remove any players whose skill set is not a fit with the clinic for which he/she registered.)

FORMAT

Both clinic options will offer high-level training and instruction in a fast-paced environment focused on skill development. 
 
All 10U, 12U, 14U and 16U clinic formats will include stations and small area games plus full-ice drills developing the following skills and more:
  • Overspeed and agility skating
  • Stickhandling, passing, and shooting
  • Checking (14U/16U), angling, and battling
  • Defense and creative offense
  • 3 on 3 pond hockey 
Our 18U clinic will be held on Tuesdays only and will include 8 hours of high-quality ice time, focusing on age-appropriate development and instruction.

GOALIE-SPECIFIC SESSIONS

Dedicated goalie-specific sessions will be led by our team of goalie coaches who are all committed to the development of net-minders.  
These clinics – divided into separate 10U/12U and 14U/16U/18U sessions – will offer hands-on goalie instruction by incorporating unique goalie coaching tools and techniques, while providing individual attention specific to the goalies' ages & skill levels.  
 
The age-appropriate sessions will be based on a progressive approach, with each session building on the skills learned in the preceding session(s).  
 
Goalies are strongly encouraged to attend all their age division's Tuesday sessions as well as their age division's practices for maximum benefit.

(NOTE: The goalie registration fees (as set forth below) include participation in all age-specific sessions as well as the dedicated Tuesday goalie sessions.)
