Team Description

The Houston Wild 16U AA team will consist of ‘01 and ‘02 birth year players.

The team anticipates participating in the following tournaments:

Regional Tournaments (within driving distance):

  • Dallas Stars Texas Shootout (September 2-4th, 2017) (16U AA bracket) (Dallas)
  • 1 other Regional Tournament (dates/locations TBD)

Non-Regional Tournaments (within the continental U.S.):

  • CCM World Invite AAA Tournament (November 3-5, 2017) (Chicago)
  • 1 other Non-Regional Tournament or game series (dates/location TBD)

Other Travel Commitments:
The team expects 4-5 DSTHL ‘away’ game weekends (within Texas), the details of which will be determined at the DSTHL scheduling meeting in mid-September.  Should the team advance to the DSTHL playoffs, 1-2 additional weekends in Dallas would be necessary.

Please see below regarding the 2018 Texas State Tournament.

Games & Scrimmages:
In total, the team expects to play approximately 45 games and scrimmages over the course of the season.

Texas State Tournament:
It will be the team’s ultimate goal to participate in the 2018 Texas 16U Tier II State Tournament.  The team may be required to participate in a 2018 Texas State Tournament Play-down series in late January 2018 (participation and if applicable, location to be determined by mid-December).  The winner of the State Tournament receives an automatic bid to represent Texas at the 2018 USA Hockey 16U Tier II National Tournament which will be held in Wayne, New Jersey in April 2018.

Practice Schedule:
This team plans on practicing once during the week before non-travel weekends and twice during the week before travel weekends.  The team will also practice twice on the weekends when the team is not travelling.   All practices will be a minimum of 1 hour in duration.

Practices may include full ice, half ice, and/or buckle practices to maximize opportunity for player development.

Off-ice Training:
Off-ice training will be held as reasonably practicable in conjunction with and in locations adjacent to on-ice practices.  Players may also be expected to complete off-ice training on their own throughout the season.

Association Practice Schedule:
The association’s initial practice schedule in regards to times/rinks will be made available late July with a supplemental practice schedule being released upon the DSTHL regular season schedule being finalized.  In efforts to support a majority of the Houston-area rinks and the Houston Wild teams’ respective widespread demographics, the Houston Wild’s weeknight and weekend practices (as well as weekend host league games) will be held at the Bellerive Ice Center, the Willowbrook Aerodrome, and Ice Skate USA (Memorial City).  Wild players may expect to practice out of each facility throughout the season.

Coaching Philosophy:
Coach Reynolds is very mindful of school commitments, family time, and player burn-out.  He believes that time away from the rink is important for recovery and rest, both mentally and physically.  Coach Reynolds expectations for the 16U AA players will be high, and he believes that their goals are achievable through a combination of continual skill development, hard work, team chemistry and a lot of fun together.

“If you expect a lot, you get a lot.  If you do not expect anything, you don't get anything."

Hours of Practice Ice:  85 hours

Player Registration Fees:  $3,365 (for details on what is included in Player Registration fees and for payment options, including our payment plan, please see the 2017-18 Tryouts page).

Team Fees:
Upon formation of the team, Coach Reynolds will work with the Team Manager and Team Treasurer to prepare a Team Budget for the season.

Such budget shall include: tournament entry fees (except the entry fee for the 2017 Texas Shootout, which is included in Player Registration Fees); cost of coach travel; additional ice purchases; off-ice training costs (if any); team events/meals; miscellaneous team expenses.

A ‘cash call’ will be made to all team families to fund these expenditures and we expect the amount of that cash call to be approximately $400 but shall not exceed $750.  It should be noted that the above costs may be significantly reduced by team fundraising efforts.  It should also be noted that any ‘cash call’ amounts collected but not spent by the team will be refunded to the families at the end of the season.

Apparel Requirements:
Please see our Apparel page for association and team-specific apparel requirements, along with apparel pricing and photos.
